Apnea Stage

With the growing interest in free diving, Luxury Yacht Maldives is pleased to offer a special week where our guests will have the chance to dive in these splendid waters together with Mike Maric, the world record breaking free diver, instructor and first assistant of U. Pellizzari’s record team.

The program will include lessons on entering the water techniques, constant ballast and variable buoyancy, swimming with fins or simply enjoying the beauty of the free dive.

As well as the water lessons, we will organize short theory lessons on points such as relaxation, meditation, autogenic training, breathing, pranayama yoga techniques, equalizationtechniques and static apnea and aquatic relaxation techniques


Proposed schedule:
Morning 7.30 to 8.20: breathing techniques, relaxation on the sun deck
After lunch, on alternate days, short theory lesson (approx. half an hour)

  • Equalisation techniques
  • The physiology of free diving and safety
  • Swimming with fins: Constant ballast

Each session in the water begins with a short briefing. One lesson of water relaxation techniques with trial of static apnea. Films on the subject of free diving will be shown in theevenings.

Swimming, mono-fin and dual fin swimming instructor. Born on 23.09.1973 of Italian-Croatian background. Mike’s water sport experience started at the age of 5 when he joined the Fanfulla Lodi swimming team, where he achieved good results and several provincial and regional titles.

Thanks to a wonderful friendship with several time world record holding free diver, Umberto Pelizzari, he began free-diving, becoming in 1998 an instructor at the Apnea Academy, the prestigious free diving school founded by Pellizzari.

Out of this he became a surface assistant to Umberto’s Sector NoLimits team, and when Umberto retired, Mike himself started competing both nationally and internationally. From 2001 to 2004 he took part in 2 world and 4 national free diving championships, coming fifth in the world in 2004 and winning 2 consecutive National Championship titles.


In 2004 he also gains the dynamic apnea world record. He has been part of several films and documentaries, appearing regularly on Italian TV as well as documentaries shown in Japan and the US.

The archipelago of the Maldives: geography and territory The Maldives are an oblong ring-shaped double-range of large atolls. The archipelago of the Maldives is located in the Indian Ocean, mostly just north and slightly south of the Equator, between 7°6’30” latitude north and 0°41’48” latitude south and between 72°32’30” and 73°45’54” longitude east. The Maldives comprise 26 atolls stretching north to south for about 764 km. and east to west for about 128 km. India is about 595 km. away from the archipelago to the north, Sri Lanka about 670 km. to the north-west and the Chagos islands about 550 km. to the south. The atolls comprise a circular coral reef which contains the internal lagoon around and within which the numerous islands of various sizes are clustered. The 26 atolls include a total of 1,190 coral islands covered in vegetation.
